Alocasia Melo
Alocasia Melo
Rare-ish • Thick & Textured
Meet the Alocasia Melo—a plant so rugged, it looks like it should be guarding treasure in an ancient temple. With ultra-thick, rugged, blue-green leaves that feel more like leather than foliage, this plant is a true statement piece. Its deeply textured surface and compact growth make it a must-have for lovers of moody, architectural plants
Why It’s Special:
Alocasia Melo is a bit of a hidden gem in the plant world. Native to Borneo and part of the jewel Alocasia crew, its dramatic, heavy foliage and unusual coloring set it apart. It doesn’t show up in big box stores—this one’s more of a greenhouse darling or collector’s flex.

Sun Requirements ▾
Bright, indirect light is the sweet spot. Avoid direct sun—those thick leaves can still burn. Too little light and it may sulk (yes, sulk).
Watering Instructions ▾
Allow the top 1–2 inches of soil to dry between waterings. Melo has thick leaves that store moisture, so overwatering is a fast track to root rot.
Humidity: Prefers 60% or higher. Dry air makes it cranky. A humidifier or steamy bathroom shelf is a big win.
Care Tips ▾
Temperature: Keep it warm—18–27°C (65–80°F). This plant does not vibe with cold drafts or sudden drops.
Soil: Use a chunky, airy aroid mix. Think orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir. Drainage is your best friend.
Feeding: Feed monthly in spring and summer with a diluted, balanced fertilizer. Skip winter feeding when growth slows down.
