Sun Requirements ▾

Give bright, indirect light—enough to keep colors vivid without scorching the foliage. Morning sun filtered through sheer curtains is fine; avoid harsh midday rays, which cause crisping and dull patterns. Too little light leads to elongated stems and muddy colors; too much bleaches or burns the leaf edges. If natural light is limited, a small LED grow light 8–12 hours/day placed 20–30 cm above the plant works well.

Watering Instructions ▾

Keep the mix evenly moist but never wet. Let the top 2–3 cm (about an inch) of soil dry before watering again, then water thoroughly and drain away excess. Bottom-watering can help avoid leaf spotting; if you water from above, keep leaves dry. Use room-temperature, low-mineral water if possible. In winter or lower light, reduce frequency (the plant uses less water). Consistently wet, heavy soil invites root rot, while allowing the entire pot to dry out fully can cause leaf curl and drop.

Care Tips ▾

This rex cultivar thrives in warm, stable conditions (18–24 °C), high humidity (50–60%+), and excellent airflow. Pot it in a loose, fast-draining mix—think peat/coco + perlite + fine bark—inside a pot with drainage; keep the pot only slightly larger than the root ball to prevent soggy soil. Trim spent or tattered leaves to encourage fresh growth, and feed lightly in spring–summer with a balanced fertilizer at ¼–½ strength every 3–4 weeks. Keep it away from cold drafts and heat vents. (Note: begonias are not pet-friendly if chewed.)
