Aptenia ‘Red Apple’ (Aptenia cordifolia)

Aptenia ‘Red Apple’ (Aptenia cordifolia), commonly known as baby sun rose or trailing ice plant, is a low-growing succulent valued for its bright red daisy-like flowers and fleshy green foliage. This fast-spreading plant forms a dense, trailing mat, making it ideal for hanging baskets, containers, and sunny garden beds.

Red Apple aptenia produces vibrant blooms throughout the warm season when grown in full sun, creating a colourful contrast against its glossy, succulent leaves. Its trailing habit allows it to cascade over edges or spread as a groundcover in suitable climates.

In Alberta, aptenia is grown as an annual or seasonal container plant, as it is not frost-hardy. It thrives in warm, dry conditions and performs best in well-drained soil with plenty of sunlight.
