Bumbleblue Salvia (Salvia nemorosa ‘Bumbleblue’)

Bumbleblue Salvia (Salvia nemorosa ‘Bumbleblue’)

Bumbleblue Salvia is a compact, long-blooming perennial valued for its deep blue-purple flower spikes and tidy growth habit. This cultivar of Salvia nemorosa is part of the Bumble series, known for strong colour, dense form, and reliable reblooming.

This herbaceous perennial forms a neat mound of aromatic green foliage. From late spring through summer, it produces upright spikes of rich blue-purple flowers that attract pollinators such as bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. With regular trimming after the first bloom, it will rebloom and provide extended seasonal colour.

Bumbleblue Salvia is well-suited for borders, pollinator gardens, and mass plantings. Its compact size makes it ideal for front- to mid-border placement and structured, low-maintenance landscapes.

Sun Requirements ▾

Full sun. Plant where Bumbleblue receives at least 6 hours of direct sunlight each day. Abundant sunlight encourages compact growth, sturdy flower stems, rich flower colour, and prolific blooming. Light partial shade can be tolerated, but too much shade may reduce flowering and produce a looser habit.

Watering Instructions ▾

Low to moderate. Water regularly during the first growing season while the root system becomes established. Once established, Bumbleblue Salvia has good drought tolerance and prefers the soil to dry somewhat between waterings. Avoid consistently wet or waterlogged soil.

Care Tips ▾

Remove or shear back faded flower spikes after the first major flowering flush to encourage fresh growth and another round of blooms. Avoid excessive fertilizer, which can encourage soft growth rather than flowers. Good drainage and air circulation help maintain healthy plants and support successful overwintering. A moisture meter is a great way to gauge your plant's moisture levels.
