Captivator Gooseberry (Ribes uva-crispa ‘Captivator’)

Captivator Gooseberry is a cold-hardy fruiting shrub known for its improved flavour, reduced thorniness, and reliable performance in northern climates. This cultivar of Ribes uva-crispa was developed through breeding programs to combine the sweetness of European gooseberries with increased disease resistance and cold tolerance.

This deciduous shrub has a rounded, moderately spreading growth habit and produces small to medium-sized berries that ripen to a deep red colour. The fruit is known for having a sweeter flavour compared to traditional gooseberries, making it suitable for fresh eating as well as preserves and baking. In spring, the plant produces small, inconspicuous flowers followed by fruit development into mid to late summer.
