Sun Requirements ▾

Key lime trees thrive in full sun and require at least 6–8 hours of direct light daily. Indoors, place the tree in the brightest spot available—such as a south-facing window—or supplement with a grow light. Outdoors, they flourish on patios, balconies, or in gardens with abundant sunlight.

Watering Instructions ▾

Water deeply when the top 1–2 inches of soil feel dry, ensuring the soil drains well. Avoid overwatering or letting the tree sit in soggy conditions, as citrus roots are sensitive to excess moisture. During the growing season (spring and summer), maintain consistent moisture; in cooler months, reduce watering as growth slows.

Care Tips ▾

Temperature & Humidity: Thrives in warm conditions (65–85°F / 18–29°C). Sensitive to cold; bring indoors if temperatures fall below 50°F (10°C). Average household humidity is fine, but higher humidity encourages vigorous growth. Potting Medium: Use a sandy, well-draining citrus or cactus potting mix. When grown in containers, ensure the pot has proper drainage holes. Fertilizing: Feed every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer with a citrus-specific fertilizer to encourage healthy foliage, flowers, and fruit. Pause fertilization during fall and winter. Pruning & Maintenance: Prune lightly to shape, improve airflow, and encourage branching. Remove any dead or weak growth as needed. Growth Habit: Compact and container-friendly, the Key Lime Tree produces fruit reliably indoors or outdoors with the right care, making it a rewarding addition to any plant collection.
