Coleus Main Street® Beale Street (Coleus scutellarioides ‘Main Street® Beale Street’)

Coleus Main Street® Beale Street (Coleus scutellarioides ‘Main Street® Beale Street’) is an award-winning foliage plant celebrated for its brilliant red leaves, vigorous growth, and outstanding garden performance. Named after the famous Beale Street in Memphis, this striking coleus delivers bold colour from spring until frost without relying on flowers, making it an exceptional choice for containers, landscape beds, borders, and mixed plantings.

The large leaves display intense shades of deep red and burgundy that maintain their vibrant colour throughout the growing season. Unlike many older coleus varieties, Beale Street holds its colour exceptionally well in both sun and partial shade, creating a dramatic focal point wherever it is planted. Its rich foliage pairs beautifully with chartreuse plants, silver foliage, ornamental grasses, and flowering annuals.

Main Street® Beale Street develops a vigorous, well-branched habit that quickly fills containers and landscape spaces. The lush foliage creates a full, mounded appearance that provides continuous visual interest and texture. Its strong performance and adaptability make it a favourite for gardeners seeking reliable season-long colour with minimal maintenance.

In Alberta, Main Street® Beale Street performs exceptionally well as a summer annual, bringing bold foliage colour and tropical appeal to patios, gardens, and outdoor living spaces.

Sun Requirements ▾

Full sun to part shade. Main Street® Beale Street was bred for excellent sun tolerance and develops outstanding colour in locations receiving several hours of direct sunlight daily. In Alberta, full sun to part shade provides the best balance of colour intensity and plant vigour. Adequate moisture helps maintain lush foliage during periods of summer heat.

Watering Instructions ▾

Moderate. Keep soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water when the top portion of the soil begins to dry. Container-grown plants may require more frequent watering during hot weather.

Care Tips ▾

Pinch growing tips occasionally to encourage fuller branching and a bushier habit. Remove flower spikes if they appear to keep the plant focused on producing colourful foliage. A moisture meter is a great way to gauge your plant's moisture levels.
