FlameThrower® Salsa Verde Coleus (Coleus scutellarioides ‘FlameThrower® Salsa Verde’)

FlameThrower® Salsa Verde Coleus (Coleus scutellarioides ‘FlameThrower® Salsa Verde’)

FlameThrower® Salsa Verde Coleus (Coleus scutellarioides ‘FlameThrower® Salsa Verde’) is a vibrant foliage plant prized for its unique blend of chartreuse, lime green, burgundy, and deep red tones. This striking coleus delivers season-long colour without relying on flowers, making it an outstanding choice for containers, landscape beds, borders, and mixed planters.

The deeply serrated leaves showcase bright lime-green centres accented by rich burgundy veining and darker margins, creating a colourful, layered appearance that stands out in both sun and shade gardens. The dramatic foliage provides exceptional contrast when paired with flowering annuals, tropical plants, ornamental grasses, and other colourful foliage selections.

Part of the popular FlameThrower® series, Salsa Verde develops a compact, well-branched habit that remains dense and attractive throughout the growing season. Its vibrant foliage colour intensifies as plants mature, providing continuous visual interest from spring until frost. The plant works beautifully as a focal point in containers or as a colourful accent in landscape plantings.

In Alberta, FlameThrower® Salsa Verde performs exceptionally well as a summer annual, providing reliable foliage colour and garden impact from planting time until frost.

Sun Requirements ▾

Part sun to full shade. Salsa Verde develops its best foliage colour in bright filtered light or locations receiving morning sun and afternoon shade. In Alberta, several hours of gentle morning sun can enhance colour intensity, while protection from harsh afternoon sun helps prevent leaf scorch and maintains vibrant foliage.

Watering Instructions ▾

Moderate. Keep soil consistently moist but not saturated. Water when the top portion of the soil begins to dry. Container-grown plants may require more frequent watering during hot summer weather.

Care Tips ▾

Pinch growing tips occasionally to encourage fuller branching and a more compact shape. Remove flower spikes if they appear to maintain the plant's focus on producing colourful foliage. A moisture meter is a great way to gauge your plant's moisture levels.
