Honeycomb® Ninebark (Physocarpus opulifolius ‘Honeycomb’)

Honeycomb® Ninebark (Physocarpus opulifolius ‘Honeycomb’)

Honeycomb® Ninebark (Physocarpus opulifolius ‘Honeycomb’) is a hardy deciduous shrub valued for its bright golden-yellow foliage and strong landscape performance. The foliage provides season-long colour, making it an excellent contrast plant in mixed shrub borders.

Clusters of small white flowers appear in early summer, followed by ornamental seed heads that extend seasonal interest. The peeling bark adds winter texture.

In Alberta, ninebark thrives in full sun to partial shade and tolerates a wide range of soil conditions, including drought and poor soils once established.

Sun Requirements ▾

Full sun to part shade. Plant in a location receiving at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily for the brightest golden foliage and best flowering. Light afternoon shade is tolerated, particularly in hotter climates.

Watering Instructions ▾

Low to Moderate. Water regularly during establishment to develop a strong root system. Once established, Honeycomb® Ninebark is drought tolerant and requires only occasional deep watering during prolonged dry periods. Avoid consistently wet or poorly drained soil.

Care Tips ▾

Prune immediately after flowering if shaping is desired, as flower buds develop on older wood. Remove several of the oldest stems every few years to encourage vigorous new growth and maintain a dense, attractive form. A moisture meter is a great way to gauge your plant's moisture levels.
