Koppert Cryptobug – Predatory Beetles for Mealybug Control

Koppert Cryptobug contains Cryptolaemus montrouzieri, a beneficial predatory beetle used for the biological control of mealybugs. It targets all stages of many mealybug species, making it a useful biological control option for plants with active mealybug infestations.

Both adult Cryptolaemus montrouzieri beetles and their larvae actively feed on mealybugs, consuming the pests completely. Cryptobug is intended for release directly in areas where mealybugs are present rather than as a preventative treatment.

For application, Koppert recommends releasing Cryptobug close to or directly at mealybug hotspots and applying the beetles in the evening. The appropriate introduction rate depends on factors including the crop, climate, and severity of the infestation, and releases may need to be repeated when necessary.

Temperature is important when using this beneficial insect. Koppert specifies a minimum temperature of 16°C (61°F) and notes that Cryptolaemus montrouzieri favours warmer conditions, with Cryptobug being most effective between 25°C and 28°C.

Cryptobug is a live biological control product and should be applied as soon as possible after receiving it. If temporary storage is necessary, Koppert recommends storing it for no longer than one to two days at 10–15°C (50–59°F), in the dark. Pesticides can have direct or indirect effects on beneficial organisms, so compatibility should be checked before combining Cryptobug with other pest-control products.
