Lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus)

Lemongrass is a fragrant, tropical herb valued for its fresh citrus flavour and tall, grassy appearance. Cymbopogon citratus is widely used in cooking, teas, and herbal remedies, while also adding a bold, architectural look to garden spaces.

This fast-growing plant forms dense clumps of tall, upright green blades with a strong lemon scent when crushed. In warm conditions, it develops thick, tender stalks at the base, which are commonly harvested for culinary use. Its grassy texture also adds movement and height to containers and garden beds.

Lemongrass is well-suited for containers, herb gardens, and patio planters. In Canadian climates, it is typically grown as an annual or brought indoors for overwintering.
