Coleus Mezmerize® Chocolate Rose (Coleus scutellarioides ‘Mezmerize® Chocolate Rose’)

Coleus Mezmerize® Chocolate Rose (Coleus scutellarioides ‘Mezmerize® Chocolate Rose’) is a stunning foliage plant prized for its rich colour contrast, vigorous growth, and season-long visual appeal. This eye-catching variety showcases vibrant rose-pink centres surrounded by deep chocolate-burgundy margins, creating a dramatic display that brightens containers, landscape beds, and mixed plantings from spring until frost.

The large, velvety leaves feature intricate colour patterns that intensify as the plant matures. The bold combination of rosy pink and dark chocolate tones provides exceptional contrast and makes Mezmerize® Chocolate Rose a natural focal point in both sun and shade gardens. Its colourful foliage eliminates the need for flowers to create impact, delivering continuous interest throughout the growing season.

This coleus develops a full, bushy habit with excellent branching, quickly filling containers and garden spaces with lush foliage. Its versatility allows it to be used as a specimen plant, mass planting, container centrepiece, or colourful accent among flowering annuals and tropical plants.

In Alberta, Mezmerize® Chocolate Rose performs exceptionally well as a summer annual, providing vibrant foliage colour and reliable garden performance from planting time until frost.

Sun Requirements ▾

Part sun to full shade. Mezmerize® Chocolate Rose develops its richest colour in bright filtered light or locations receiving morning sun and afternoon shade. In Alberta, it can tolerate several hours of direct sunlight when provided with adequate moisture, but protection from intense afternoon sun helps maintain the most vibrant foliage colour and prevents leaf scorch.

Watering Instructions ▾

Moderate. Keep soil consistently moist but not saturated. Water when the top portion of the soil begins to dry. Container-grown plants may require more frequent watering during periods of summer heat.

Care Tips ▾

Pinch growing tips occasionally to encourage fuller branching and a more compact shape. Remove flower spikes if they appear to maintain the plant's focus on foliage production. A moisture meter is a great way to gauge your plant's moisture levels.
