Mini Corsican Mint (Mentha requienii)
Mini Corsican Mint (Mentha requienii)
Mini Corsican Mint (Mentha requienii) is a charming, low-growing herb prized for its miniature leaves, refreshing mint fragrance, and carpet-forming growth habit. One of the smallest members of the mint family, this delicate-looking plant creates a dense mat of bright green foliage that releases a sweet mint aroma when touched or walked upon.
The tiny rounded leaves form a lush groundcover that spreads gently across the soil surface, making it an excellent choice for fairy gardens, terrariums, pathways, rock gardens, and decorative containers. During summer, small pale lavender flowers may appear among the foliage, attracting pollinators and adding subtle seasonal interest.
Mini Corsican Mint is valued as much for its ornamental appeal as for its fragrance. Its fine texture provides a beautiful contrast to larger-leaved plants and works exceptionally well as a living mulch or filler between stepping stones in suitable locations. The foliage can also be used sparingly as a garnish or aromatic accent.
In Alberta, Mini Corsican Mint is often grown in containers, mixed planters, and sheltered garden locations where its delicate foliage can be appreciated up close.
