Proven Winners® Cat’s Pajamas Catmint (Nepeta)

Proven Winners® Cat’s Pajamas Catmint (Nepeta ‘Cat’s Pajamas’) is a compact, award-winning perennial prized for its long-lasting lavender-purple blooms and tidy, mounded growth habit. Unlike older catmint varieties, this improved selection flowers from the base of the plant all the way to the tips, creating a fuller, more uniform display of colour from early summer into fall.

The soft, grey-green aromatic foliage provides a beautiful contrast to the vivid flower spikes, while also offering natural deer resistance. Its dense, low-growing form makes it an excellent choice for edging pathways, planting along borders, or incorporating into rock gardens and container arrangements. This variety maintains a neat appearance throughout the season, making it especially appealing for structured landscape designs.

In Alberta, Cat’s Pajamas performs exceptionally well in full sun and well-drained soil. It is highly drought-tolerant once established and thrives in hot, dry conditions common to Prairie climates. Its extended bloom period and low maintenance needs make it a reliable and versatile addition to both residential and commercial landscapes.

Sun Requirements ▾

Full sun. Plant in a location receiving at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily. Full sun encourages compact growth, abundant flowering, and the strongest foliage fragrance.

Watering Instructions ▾

Low to Moderate. Water regularly during establishment. Once established, Cat's Pajamas is highly drought tolerant and requires only occasional deep watering during prolonged dry periods. Avoid consistently wet soil.

Care Tips ▾

Shear plants back by approximately one-third after the first flush of flowers to encourage fresh foliage and a second round of blooming. Divide mature clumps every three to five years in spring or early fall if desired. A moisture meter is a great way to gauge your plant's moisture levels.
