Proven Winners® Quick Fire Fab® Hydrangea (Hydrangea paniculata)

Proven Winners® Quick Fire Fab® Hydrangea (Hydrangea paniculata)

Proven Winners® Quick Fire Fab® Hydrangea (Hydrangea paniculata ‘SMNHPH’) is an exceptional deciduous flowering shrub prized for its enormous, full panicle blooms, sturdy stems, and remarkably long season of colour. Part of the Proven Winners® collection, this improved panicle hydrangea begins blooming earlier than many other varieties, producing large, densely packed flower clusters that emerge creamy white before gradually transitioning through soft pink to rich raspberry-red as the season progresses.

Its uniquely full flower heads feature densely packed sterile florets that create a lush, mophead-like appearance while retaining the classic upright panicle shape. The sturdy branches hold the oversized blooms upright without flopping, even after heavy rain, creating an impressive display from early summer well into autumn. As the flowers mature, multiple shades of white, pink, and deep rose often appear simultaneously, providing outstanding multi-season interest.

Quick Fire Fab® develops a compact, upright habit that makes it an excellent specimen shrub, foundation planting, flowering hedge, or mixed border accent. The long-lasting blooms attract bees and butterflies and are excellent for fresh-cut arrangements or dried floral displays. It pairs beautifully with ornamental grasses, spirea, ninebark, coneflowers, salvia, and other sun-loving perennials.

In Alberta, Proven Winners® Quick Fire Fab® Hydrangea is exceptionally hardy and dependable, thriving in full sun to part shade while providing spectacular blooms year after year.

Sun Requirements ▾

Full sun to part shade. Plant in a location receiving at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily for the strongest stems, heaviest flowering, and richest flower colour. Light afternoon shade is beneficial in hotter locations.

Watering Instructions ▾

Moderate. Keep the soil consistently moist during establishment. Once established, water deeply during prolonged dry periods, especially during flowering. Well-drained soil is essential for healthy root development.

Care Tips ▾

Prune in late winter or early spring before new growth begins, as this hydrangea flowers on new wood. Remove weak or damaged stems to encourage vigorous new growth and larger flower clusters. Apply mulch around the root zone to help conserve soil moisture. A moisture meter is a great way to gauge your plant's moisture levels.
