Marble String of Pearls (Curio rowleyanus 'Variegatus')
Marble String of Pearls (Curio rowleyanus 'Variegatus')
Marble String of Pearls (Curio rowleyanus 'Variegatus'), formerly classified as Senecio rowleyanus, is a rare collector's succulent prized for its cascading strands of pearl-shaped leaves beautifully marbled in shades of green, cream, and soft ivory. This variegated form of the beloved String of Pearls offers all the charm of the classic variety while adding striking colour contrast that makes it a standout in hanging baskets, shelves, and succulent collections.
The fleshy spherical leaves act as water storage organs, allowing the plant to tolerate dry conditions while creating its distinctive trailing habit. As the vines mature, they can cascade well over the edges of containers, forming elegant curtains of variegated foliage. Under ideal conditions, mature plants may produce small white, brush-like flowers with a sweet cinnamon-like fragrance during the cooler months.
Marble String of Pearls performs beautifully in hanging baskets, wall planters, decorative pots, succulent bowls, and elevated plant shelves where its cascading stems can be fully appreciated. It pairs exceptionally well with String of Hearts, Burro's Tail, Hoyas, Peperomias, Echeverias, and other trailing succulents, creating unique indoor displays filled with contrasting textures and colours.
