ZZ Plant Chameleon (Zamioculcas zamiifolia ‘Chameleon’)

ZZ Plant Chameleon (Zamioculcas zamiifolia ‘Chameleon’)

ZZ Plant Chameleon (Zamioculcas zamiifolia ‘Chameleon’) is a rare and eye-catching tropical houseplant prized for its unique colour-changing foliage and exceptional ease of care. Unlike traditional ZZ Plants, new leaves emerge in vibrant shades of golden-yellow to chartreuse before gradually maturing to deep glossy green, creating a stunning two-tone display as fresh and mature growth coexist on the plant.

Its thick, upright stems support glossy, waxy leaflets that store water, making this variety remarkably drought tolerant and well suited to busy plant owners. The dramatic colour transition provides year-round interest while maintaining the tough, resilient nature that has made ZZ Plants one of the world's most popular indoor plants. Its upright, architectural form complements both modern and traditional décor while requiring very little maintenance.

ZZ Plant Chameleon performs beautifully as a tabletop plant, floor specimen, office plant, or decorative accent in homes and commercial spaces. It pairs exceptionally well with snake plants, pothos, philodendrons, peace lilies, monsteras, and aglaonemas, creating attractive tropical displays with contrasting foliage colours and textures.

Sun Requirements ▾

Bright indirect light to low light. An LED grow light can help maintain healthy growth in spaces with limited natural light. Bright indirect light encourages the brightest golden new growth and faster development, while the plant also tolerates lower light conditions. Avoid prolonged direct afternoon sun, which can scorch the foliage.

Watering Instructions ▾

Low. Allow the soil to dry almost completely before watering thoroughly. Empty excess water from the saucer after watering and never allow the plant to remain in soggy soil. Reduce watering during winter when growth naturally slows.

Care Tips ▾

Avoid frequent watering, as ZZ Plants store moisture in their underground rhizomes and are highly susceptible to overwatering. Wipe the glossy leaves occasionally to remove dust and feed every two to three months during spring and summer with a balanced houseplant fertilizer. A moisture meter is a great way to gauge your plant's moisture levels.
