Proven Winners® Color Coded® Knock 'em Red Coneflower (Echinacea hybrid ‘Knock 'em Red’) (PW)

Proven Winners® Color Coded® Knock 'em Red Coneflower (Echinacea hybrid ‘Knock 'em Red’) (PW) is a bold hardy perennial prized for its intensely vibrant red blooms, compact upright habit, and exceptional pollinator appeal. Blooming from mid-summer into fall, this colourful coneflower brings long-lasting prairie colour and wildlife activity to perennial borders, pollinator gardens, and sunny landscape plantings.

The large daisy-like flowers feature rich scarlet-red petals surrounding prominent dark cone centres that attract bees, butterflies, and other beneficial pollinators throughout the growing season. Its sturdy branching stems provide excellent flower production while maintaining a tidy manageable shape ideal for modern perennial gardens and mixed landscape designs.

The deep green foliage forms a dense clump beneath the blooms and provides strong disease resistance and heat tolerance once established. The seed heads also provide late-season interest and can attract birds in autumn and winter landscapes if left standing.

In Alberta, Color Coded® Knock 'em Red Coneflower performs best in full sun with fertile, well-drained soil and moderate watering during establishment. Once mature, it thrives during hot Prairie summers and develops excellent drought tolerance and winter hardiness.

Sun Requirements ▾

Full sun is essential for maximum flowering, vibrant colour development, and sturdy growth. Plant in a location that receives at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily. Bright sun encourages abundant blooms, stronger stems, and a compact habit. While light partial shade is tolerated, flowering and overall plant performance are best in full sun.

Watering Instructions ▾

Moderate. Water regularly during establishment. Once established, plants are drought tolerant and generally require supplemental watering only during extended dry periods.

Care Tips ▾

Deadhead spent flowers to encourage continued blooming throughout the season, or leave seed heads standing through winter for wildlife value and seasonal interest.
