Alocasia scalprum (Alocasia scalprum)
Alocasia scalprum (Alocasia scalprum)
Alocasia scalprum is a rare collector's tropical houseplant native to the Philippines, prized for its distinctive narrow, elongated leaves with heavily textured surfaces and a remarkable metallic blue-green sheen. Often referred to as the "Samar Lance" Alocasia, this unique species stands apart from other Alocasias with its deeply ridged foliage and elegant upright growth habit, making it a prized addition to any rare plant collection.
The thick, leathery leaves feature pronounced sculpting and deeply impressed veins that create a dramatic three-dimensional appearance. Depending on the lighting, the foliage can display shades of emerald green, blue-green, and silvery metallic highlights, giving the plant exceptional visual depth. New leaves emerge tightly furled before unfurling into increasingly larger, more textured foliage as the plant matures.
Alocasia scalprum performs beautifully as a specimen plant in decorative containers, plant cabinets, greenhouses, and bright indoor living spaces. It pairs exceptionally well with Anthuriums, Philodendrons, Monsteras, Jewel Alocasias, Syngoniums, and other tropical aroids, creating sophisticated indoor displays filled with contrasting leaf textures and architectural forms.
