Autumn Fire Stonecrop (Sedum spectabile ‘Autumn Fire’)
Autumn Fire Stonecrop (Sedum spectabile ‘Autumn Fire’)
Autumn Fire Stonecrop (Sedum spectabile ‘Autumn Fire’) is a reliable late-season perennial known for its large rosy-red flower heads and excellent drought tolerance. Blooming from late summer into fall, this upright sedum delivers valuable colour when many other perennials begin fading, making it an essential addition to long-season gardens.
The thick succulent green foliage forms tidy mounds throughout the growing season and provides strong texture in mixed borders and xeriscape landscapes. As the flower heads mature, their colour deepens from soft pink to rich copper-red, extending ornamental interest well into autumn. Pollinators such as bees and butterflies are highly attracted to the blooms, while the dried flower heads add winter structure.
In Alberta, Autumn Fire thrives in full sun with sharply drained soil. It is exceptionally cold-hardy and highly drought-tolerant once established, making it perfectly suited to Prairie gardens and low-maintenance landscaping.
