Magic Colours Rex Begonia (Begonia rex-cultorum ‘Magic Colours’)

Magic Colours Rex Begonia (Begonia rex-cultorum ‘Magic Colours’)

Magic Colours Rex Begonia (Begonia rex-cultorum ‘Magic Colours’) is a striking tropical foliage houseplant prized for its spectacular multicoloured leaves featuring intricate patterns in shades of silver, green, burgundy, pink, purple, and deep charcoal. Grown primarily for its extraordinary foliage rather than its flowers, this Rex Begonia brings bold colour, texture, and artistic beauty to indoor plant collections throughout the year.

Each leaf displays its own unique combination of colours and markings, creating an ever-changing display as new growth emerges. The large, spiralling leaves have a velvety texture and metallic sheen that catches the light beautifully, making this variety a standout on shelves, desks, plant stands, and terrariums. Although small pink or white flowers may occasionally appear, the dramatic foliage remains the plant's main attraction.

Magic Colours Rex Begonia performs beautifully in decorative containers, indoor plant displays, terrariums, offices, and bright living spaces. It pairs exceptionally well with calatheas, peperomias, ferns, fittonias, philodendrons, and other tropical foliage plants, creating vibrant combinations filled with contrasting colours and textures.

Sun Requirements ▾

Full sun. Plant in a location receiving at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily. Full sun promotes sturdy stems, abundant flowering, vibrant colour, and the highest-quality blooms for drying.

Watering Instructions ▾

Moderate. Water regularly while plants become established, then allow the top portion of the soil to dry slightly between waterings. Once established, strawflowers are drought tolerant but produce the best blooms with consistent moisture. Avoid prolonged soggy soil.

Care Tips ▾

Remove spent flowers regularly to encourage continuous blooming or harvest flowers just before they fully open for the best dried arrangements. Feed every three to four weeks with a balanced fertilizer throughout the growing season. A moisture meter is a great way to gauge your plant's moisture levels.
