Sun Requirements ▾
Prefers bright, indirect light
Can handle low light, though colors may fade
Direct sun can bleach or burn the leaves—avoid southern exposure without a filter
Coloration is more intense with more light (without overdoing it)
Watering Instructions ▾
Keep soil lightly moist, but never soggy
Let the top half-inch of soil dry between waterings
Water less frequently in winter
Likes humidity—mist regularly or group with other plants to increase ambient moisture
Unlike many bromeliads, Cryptanthus doesn’t hold water in a central “cup”—water the soil, not the center
Care Tips ▾
Needs well-draining soil—a cactus or orchid mix with added peat or coco coir works well
Shallow-rooted and happy in wide, shallow pots
Good choice for terrariums or decorative bowls with drainage
Temperature & Humidity
Likes 60–80°F (16–27°C)
Can’t tolerate frost—protect from temperatures under 50°F (10°C)
Loves moderate to high humidity (50%+)
Fertilizer
Feed monthly during growing season with a diluted balanced fertilizer
Skip or reduce feeding in fall/winter
Too much fertilizer can dull leaf color—less is more
