Dianthus ‘Sweet Dusty Flamingo’ (Dianthus barbatus interspecific ‘Sweet Dusty Flamingo’)

Dianthus ‘Sweet Dusty Flamingo’ (Dianthus barbatus interspecific ‘Sweet Dusty Flamingo’)

Dianthus ‘Sweet Dusty Flamingo’ is a charming flowering perennial prized for its soft dusty pink blooms, sweet fragrance, and long-lasting floral display. Part of the Sweet™ series, this compact dianthus combines classic cottage-garden beauty with improved flowering performance, producing abundant blooms over an extended season.

Clusters of delicately coloured flowers emerge in shades of dusty rose and flamingo pink, creating a romantic display above tidy mounds of blue-green foliage. The lightly fringed blooms release a pleasant clove-like fragrance that attracts bees, butterflies, and other beneficial pollinators while adding sensory appeal to garden spaces. Their soft colouring blends beautifully with both pastel and vibrant garden palettes.

Sweet Dusty Flamingo forms a dense, compact mound that remains attractive throughout the growing season. Its manageable size makes it ideal for edging pathways, perennial borders, rock gardens, containers, and cottage-style plantings. The flowers are also excellent for fresh-cut arrangements, bringing colour and fragrance indoors.

In Alberta, Sweet Dusty Flamingo Dianthus performs exceptionally well in sunny locations with excellent drainage. Its cold hardiness, drought tolerance, and easy-care nature make it a reliable perennial for Prairie gardens.

Sun Requirements ▾

Full sun is ideal for maximum flowering, strongest fragrance, and compact growth. Plant in a location that receives at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily. Bright sunlight promotes abundant blooms, healthy foliage, and the best flower colour. While light partial shade is tolerated, flowering performance is strongest in full sun with good air circulation.

Watering Instructions ▾

Low to moderate. Water regularly during establishment, then allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings. Established plants are relatively drought tolerant and prefer well-drained conditions.

Care Tips ▾

Deadhead spent flowers regularly to encourage additional blooming and maintain a tidy appearance. Divide mature plants every few years to maintain vigour and flowering performance.
