Engelmann Virginia Creeper (Parthenocissus quinquefolia ‘Engelmannii’)

Engelmann Virginia Creeper (Parthenocissus quinquefolia ‘Engelmannii’) is a vigorous, exceptionally hardy climbing vine prized for its lush foliage, reliable growth, and spectacular autumn colour. Its distinctive leaves are divided into five leaflets, creating a dense green covering throughout spring and summer before transforming into brilliant shades of scarlet, crimson, orange, and burgundy as temperatures cool in fall.

This adaptable vine climbs using branching tendrils tipped with adhesive discs, allowing it to cover sturdy walls, fences, pergolas, arbors, and other structures without requiring extensive training. ‘Engelmannii’ is valued for its dense growth and ability to quickly create a leafy vertical screen, making it particularly useful for adding privacy, covering unattractive structures, or bringing greenery to large vertical spaces.

Small, inconspicuous greenish flowers may appear in late spring to early summer and are followed by clusters of dark blue-black berries. While the berries are not edible for people, they provide ornamental interest and can serve as a food source for birds and other wildlife.
