Eye-Catcher™ Tanager Coneflower (Echinacea hybrid ‘Eye-Catcher™ Tanager’)

Eye-Catcher™ Tanager Coneflower (Echinacea hybrid ‘Eye-Catcher™ Tanager’) is a vibrant hardy perennial prized for its glowing golden-yellow to orange blooms, compact upright habit, and exceptional pollinator appeal. Blooming from mid-summer into fall, this colourful coneflower brings warm sunset tones and long-lasting prairie beauty to perennial borders, pollinator gardens, and sunny landscape plantings.

The large daisy-like flowers feature rich golden petals with warm orange undertones surrounding dark central cones that attract bees, butterflies, and other beneficial pollinators throughout the growing season. Its sturdy branching stems provide excellent flower production while maintaining a neat manageable shape ideal for mixed perennial plantings and decorative borders.

The deep green foliage forms a dense clump beneath the blooms and offers strong heat tolerance and drought resistance once established. The long-lasting flowers are also excellent for fresh-cut arrangements, while mature seed heads may provide late-season interest and bird food in autumn gardens.

In Alberta, Eye-Catcher™ Tanager Coneflower performs best in full sun with fertile, well-drained soil and moderate watering during establishment. Once mature, it thrives during hot Prairie summers and develops excellent drought tolerance and winter hardiness.

Sun Requirements ▾

Full sun is essential for the strongest flowering, richest flower colour, and healthiest growth. Plant in a location that receives at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily. Full sun encourages sturdy stems, abundant blooms, and a compact growth habit. While light partial shade is tolerated, flowering and overall performance are best in sunny locations.

Watering Instructions ▾

Moderate. Water regularly during establishment. Once established, plants tolerate dry conditions well and require supplemental watering only during extended drought.

Care Tips ▾

Deadhead spent flowers to encourage continued blooming, or leave seed heads intact in autumn to provide winter interest and attract birds.
