Sugar Buzz™ Grape Gumball Bee Balm (Monarda ‘Grape Gumball’)

Sugar Buzz™ Grape Gumball Bee Balm (Monarda ‘Grape Gumball’)

Sugar Buzz™ Grape Gumball Bee Balm is a compact, long-blooming perennial valued for its vibrant purple flower heads and improved garden performance. This cultivar of Monarda is part of the Sugar Buzz™ series, bred for strong mildew resistance, compact growth, and extended flowering.

This herbaceous perennial forms a dense, upright clump of aromatic green foliage. From mid to late summer, it produces bold, tufted blooms in rich grape-purple tones that attract pollinators such as bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. The fragrant foliage adds additional sensory appeal to garden spaces.

Grape Gumball Bee Balm is well-suited for borders, pollinator gardens, and cottage-style plantings. Its compact size makes it ideal for smaller spaces and front- to mid-border placement.

Sun Requirements ▾

Full sun to partial shade. Provide at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily for sturdy, compact growth and abundant flowering. Light afternoon shade can be beneficial in particularly hot, exposed locations, although excessive shade may reduce flowering and result in less compact growth.

Watering Instructions ▾

Moderate. Keep the soil relatively evenly moist during establishment, flowering, and prolonged periods of hot weather. Water deeply when the upper portion of the soil begins to dry, but avoid continuously saturated conditions. Applying mulch around the root zone can help conserve moisture during summer.

Care Tips ▾

Deadhead faded flowers to maintain a tidy appearance and encourage additional blooming when growing conditions are favourable. Provide good air circulation around the foliage and avoid overcrowding plants. Divide established clumps every few years in spring when they become crowded or begin spreading beyond their desired area. A moisture meter is a great way to gauge your plant's moisture levels.
