Heaven Scent Jacob’s Ladder (Polemonium ‘Heaven Scent’) – Proven Winners®

Heaven Scent Jacob’s Ladder (Polemonium ‘Heaven Scent’) – Proven Winners®

Heaven Scent Jacob’s Ladder is a Proven Winners® perennial valued for its soft lavender-purple blooms and finely textured foliage. This cultivar of Polemonium is known for its delicate appearance and improved garden performance, especially in cooler climates.

This herbaceous perennial forms a compact clump of fern-like, ladder-shaped green foliage. In late spring to early summer, it produces clusters of bell-shaped flowers in soft lavender to pale purple tones, often with a light, pleasant fragrance. The blooms attract pollinators such as bees while adding gentle colour to shaded spaces.

Heaven Scent Polemonium is well-suited for shaded borders, woodland gardens, and mixed perennial beds. Its airy texture and soft blooms make it an excellent companion plant in both naturalized and refined landscape designs.

Sun Requirements ▾

Partial sun to partial shade. Morning sunlight followed by protection from intense afternoon sun provides excellent growing conditions. Bright, filtered light encourages healthy foliage and abundant flowering while helping protect plants from excessive heat. In cooler climates, Heaven Scent can tolerate additional sunlight when adequate soil moisture is available.

Watering Instructions ▾

Moderate. Keep the soil relatively evenly moist during establishment, active growth, and flowering. Allow the upper portion of the soil to dry slightly between waterings, but avoid prolonged drought. Consistent moisture is particularly beneficial during hot summer weather.

Care Tips ▾

Remove faded flower stems after blooming to maintain a tidy appearance and encourage attractive foliage. Plants prefer cool root conditions, so applying organic mulch can help conserve moisture and moderate soil temperatures. Avoid allowing plants to become excessively hot or dry during summer. A moisture meter is a great way to gauge your plant's moisture levels.
