Koppert Cryptobug-L – Predatory Larvae for Mealybug Control

Koppert Cryptobug-L contains larvae of Cryptolaemus montrouzieri, a beneficial predatory beetle used for the biological control of mealybugs. The larvae actively search for and consume mealybugs and can be used against all stages of many mealybug species. Cryptobug-L is particularly suited to targeted treatment of areas where mealybugs are actively present.

For application, Koppert recommends distributing the material close to or directly at mealybug hotspots. Introduction rates depend on the crop, climate, and severity of the infestation, and repeated releases may be required until the pest is controlled. Koppert states that Cryptobug-L can be introduced preventatively or as soon as the first mealybugs are detected.

Temperature is important when using this beneficial insect. Koppert specifies a minimum temperature of 16°C (61°F) and states that Cryptolaemus montrouzieri performs most effectively between 25°C and 28°C.

Cryptobug-L is a live biological control product and should be applied as soon as possible after receiving it. If temporary storage is necessary, Koppert recommends storing it for no longer than one to two days at 10–15°C (50–59°F), in the dark. Pesticides can have direct or indirect effects on beneficial organisms, so compatibility should be checked before combining Cryptobug-L with other pest-control products.
