Marmalade® Potentilla (Potentilla fruticosa ‘Marmalade®’) (FE)

Marmalade® Potentilla (Potentilla fruticosa ‘Marmalade®’) (FE) is a hardy deciduous shrub prized for its warm orange-apricot blooms, compact rounded habit, and exceptionally long flowering season. Blooming continuously from late spring until frost, this colourful shrub adds cheerful sunset-inspired tones and pollinator appeal to borders, foundation plantings, rock gardens, and low-maintenance landscape designs.

The soft orange flowers display warm peach and apricot undertones that shift gently in intensity throughout the season, creating a lively multicoloured appearance against fine-textured green foliage. Bees and other beneficial pollinators are highly attracted to the nectar-rich blooms, making Marmalade® an excellent addition to pollinator-friendly gardens and mixed shrub borders.

Its naturally dense rounded growth habit requires very little pruning and makes it ideal for smaller landscapes, edging, mass plantings, and drought-tolerant garden designs. Once established, this potentilla thrives in challenging Prairie conditions while maintaining reliable flowering and tidy structure throughout the growing season.

In Alberta, Marmalade® Potentilla performs best in full sun with well-drained soil and moderate watering during establishment. It develops excellent drought tolerance, cold hardiness, and adaptability to a wide range of landscape conditions.

Sun Requirements ▾

Full sun is ideal for the heaviest flowering and best overall plant performance. Plant in a location that receives at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily. While Marmalade® Potentilla can tolerate light partial shade, flowering will be most abundant and foliage will remain densest when grown in full sun.

Watering Instructions ▾

Moderate. Water regularly during establishment. Mature plants are drought tolerant and require supplemental watering only during prolonged dry periods.

Care Tips ▾

Prune lightly in early spring to maintain shape and encourage vigorous new growth and flowering throughout the season.
