New Vintage™ Violet Yarrow (Achillea millefolium ‘New Vintage Violet’)

New Vintage™ Violet Yarrow (Achillea millefolium ‘New Vintage Violet’)

New Vintage™ Violet Yarrow (Achillea millefolium ‘New Vintage Violet’) is a compact long-blooming perennial prized for its vivid violet-purple flower clusters and sturdy dwarf growth habit. This colourful yarrow produces masses of flattened blooms from early summer into fall, adding vibrant colour, texture, and pollinator activity to perennial borders, rock gardens, and sunny landscape beds.

The richly coloured blooms sit atop sturdy stems above finely textured fern-like foliage, creating excellent contrast and structure in garden plantings. Its compact habit makes it especially suitable for smaller gardens, edging, patio containers, and front-of-border displays where traditional taller yarrow varieties may be overwhelming. Butterflies, bees, and other pollinators are highly attracted to the nectar-rich flowers throughout the growing season.

In Alberta, New Vintage™ Violet Yarrow performs best in full sun with fertile, well-drained soil and moderate watering during establishment. Once established, it develops excellent drought tolerance and thrives during hot Prairie summers with minimal maintenance. The long-lasting flowers are also useful in fresh and dried floral arrangements.

Sun Requirements ▾

Full sun is essential for the strongest flowering, best colour development, and healthiest growth. Plant in a location that receives at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily. Bright sunlight encourages abundant blooms, sturdy stems, and a compact growth habit. Plants grown in partial shade may become less dense and produce fewer flowers.

Watering Instructions ▾

Low to moderate. Water regularly during establishment, then only during extended periods of drought. Established plants are highly drought tolerant and prefer well-drained conditions.

Care Tips ▾

Deadhead spent blooms to encourage additional flowering and maintain a tidy appearance. Divide mature clumps every few years to promote vigour and continued bloom production.
