Northblue Blueberry (Vaccinium angustifolium × corymbosum ‘Northblue’)
Northblue Blueberry (Vaccinium angustifolium × corymbosum ‘Northblue’)
Northblue Blueberry is a cold-hardy hybrid blueberry variety developed specifically for northern climates. This cultivar is a cross between lowbush and highbush species, resulting in a compact, productive shrub that produces medium to large blueberries with a balanced sweet flavour.
This deciduous shrub has a low, mounded growth habit, typically reaching a manageable height that makes it ideal for smaller gardens and container growing. In spring, it produces clusters of white to pale pink bell-shaped flowers, followed by berries that ripen in mid-summer. The foliage provides additional seasonal interest, turning vibrant shades of red in the fall.
Northblue is valued for its ability to produce reliable yields in colder regions where traditional highbush blueberries may struggle. It is well-suited for edible landscapes, patio containers, and garden beds. For best fruit production, planting alongside another compatible blueberry variety is recommended to improve pollination and yield.
