Philodendron ‘Neon Variegated’ (Philodendron hederaceum)

Philodendron ‘Neon Variegated’ (Philodendron hederaceum) is a vibrant tropical houseplant known for its bright chartreuse foliage accented with variegated patterns. The leaves display a mix of neon green, lime, and lighter cream tones, creating a luminous effect that brings brightness and contrast to indoor plant collections.

This variety grows in a trailing or climbing habit, producing slender stems with heart-shaped leaves. It can be styled as a cascading plant in hanging baskets or trained upward on a moss pole or trellis for vertical growth. Its adaptable nature makes it suitable for a variety of indoor displays, from shelves to statement plant arrangements.

Sun Requirements ▾

To maintain its bright neon tones and variegation, this philodendron thrives in bright, indirect light. Medium light will keep it growing, but the variegation may be less pronounced. Avoid extended periods of low light, which can lead to greener leaves, and direct harsh sunlight, which may scorch the foliage.

Watering Instructions ▾

Water when the top 1–2 inches of soil are dry to the touch. Typically, this means watering every 7–10 days, depending on your environment. Always allow water to drain freely and avoid letting the plant sit in soggy soil. This philodendron tolerates short periods of dryness better than overwatering, which is the most common issue.

Care Tips ▾

Best grown in warm conditions (65–85°F / 18–29°C) with moderate to high humidity. A humidifier or regular misting can help the leaves stay lush. A well-draining aroid mix (with perlite, bark, and peat) keeps roots healthy and prevents rot. Feed monthly during the growing season with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength. Pause in fall and winter when growth slows. Naturally trails or climbs. Train on a moss pole for larger, more dramatic leaves, or let it cascade elegantly from a hanging basket. Pruning: Trim back long vines to encourage fuller growth and maintain a balanced shape.
