Proven Winners® Superlophus® Sunglow Evening Primrose (Oenothera hybrid ‘Superlophus® Sunglow’) (PW)

Proven Winners® Superlophus® Sunglow Evening Primrose (Oenothera hybrid ‘Superlophus® Sunglow’) (PW) is a vibrant perennial prized for its cheerful golden-yellow flowers, compact spreading habit, and exceptionally long blooming season. This bright and reliable performer delivers months of colour while thriving in sunny, well-drained locations, making it an excellent choice for borders, rock gardens, containers, and water-wise landscapes.

Beginning in late spring and continuing through summer, masses of luminous yellow blooms cover the plant, creating a glowing carpet of colour. The flowers open freely and continuously, attracting bees, butterflies, and other beneficial pollinators throughout the growing season. Their bright colouring pairs beautifully with purple, blue, and silver-toned companion plants, creating striking garden combinations.

Superlophus® Sunglow forms a low-growing, spreading mound of attractive green foliage that remains tidy and attractive throughout the season. Its compact habit makes it ideal for the front of perennial borders, rock gardens, edging pathways, and spilling gently over retaining walls or container edges. Once established, it demonstrates excellent drought tolerance and requires very little maintenance.

In Alberta, Superlophus® Sunglow performs exceptionally well in sunny locations and is valued for its cold hardiness, long flowering season, and dependable garden performance.

Sun Requirements ▾

Full sun is essential for maximum flowering and the healthiest growth. Plant in a location that receives at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily. Bright sunlight encourages abundant blooms, compact growth, and excellent drought tolerance. While light partial shade is tolerated, flowering will be heaviest and most consistent in full sun.

Watering Instructions ▾

Low to moderate. Water regularly during establishment. Once established, plants are drought tolerant and perform best in well-drained soils with occasional deep watering during extended dry periods.

Care Tips ▾

Deadhead lightly to encourage continued flowering and maintain a tidy appearance. Avoid overly rich soils, which can encourage excessive foliage growth at the expense of blooms.
