Royal Wedding Oriental Poppy (Papaver orientale ‘Royal Wedding’)

Royal Wedding Oriental Poppy (Papaver orientale ‘Royal Wedding’)

Royal Wedding Oriental Poppy is a striking perennial valued for its large, pure white blooms accented by dramatic dark centres. This cultivar of Papaver orientale is known for its elegant colour contrast and bold presence in late spring gardens.

This herbaceous perennial forms a clump of coarse, deeply lobed green foliage. In late spring to early summer, it produces large, papery white flowers with prominent black centres, creating a crisp and eye-catching display. The blooms attract pollinators such as bees and provide strong visual impact in garden beds.

Royal Wedding Oriental Poppy is well-suited for borders, cottage gardens, and focal plantings. Its bright blooms and upright stems make it an excellent choice for adding contrast and seasonal interest to perennial landscapes.

Sun Requirements ▾

Full sun. Provide at least 6 hours of direct sunlight each day for sturdy growth and abundant flowering. An open, sunny location promotes strong flower stems and the best floral display. Light partial shade may be tolerated, but excessive shade can reduce flowering.

Watering Instructions ▾

Low to moderate. Provide consistent moisture during active spring growth and flowering, allowing the upper portion of the soil to dry slightly between waterings. Once established, Oriental Poppies tolerate relatively dry conditions. Reduce watering as plants naturally enter summer dormancy and avoid persistently wet soil.

Care Tips ▾

Remove faded flowers if a tidy appearance is desired, or leave the decorative seed heads standing for additional garden interest. Allow foliage to naturally yellow and die back before removing it. Oriental Poppies develop deep taproots and generally dislike being transplanted once established, so select their permanent location carefully. A moisture meter is a great way to gauge your plant's moisture levels.
