Sedum Morganianum (Burro’s Tail)

Sedum Morganianum (Burro’s Tail)

Sedum morganianum, commonly known as Burro’s Tail, is a trailing succulent prized for its long, cascading stems densely packed with plump, blue-green leaves. The bead-like foliage creates a soft, flowing texture that makes this plant especially striking in hanging planters or elevated containers. Its unique form and pastel tones give it a sculptural, almost whimsical appearance.

Native to Mexico, Sedum morganianum is adapted to dry, sunny environments and stores water in its fleshy leaves. While visually lush, it is a slow-growing and delicate plant, and its leaves can drop easily if handled roughly. With stable placement and proper care, Burro’s Tail becomes a beautiful, long-lasting statement succulent.

Sun Requirements ▾

Bright light is essential for healthy growth. Sedum morganianum thrives in bright indirect light and can tolerate some gentle direct sun, particularly in the morning. Insufficient light may cause leggy growth and increased leaf drop. Strong, consistent light helps maintain compact growth and vibrant foliage colour.

Watering Instructions ▾

Watering should be done only when the soil has dried out completely. Sedum morganianum is highly drought tolerant and sensitive to overwatering, which can cause root rot. Water thoroughly and allow excess water to drain fully. During the winter months, watering should be reduced significantly, as the plant requires very little moisture when growth slows.

Care Tips ▾

Sedum morganianum prefers a bright, warm environment with good airflow and minimal disturbance. It performs best in a fast-draining cactus or succulent soil mix that allows excess moisture to escape quickly. This plant does not respond well to frequent handling or movement, as the leaves are fragile and can fall off easily. Once placed, it should be left undisturbed as much as possible.
