Solar Jewel Tickseed (Coreopsis grandiflora ‘Solar Jewel’)

Solar Jewel Tickseed (Coreopsis grandiflora ‘Solar Jewel’)

Solar Jewel Tickseed (Coreopsis grandiflora 'Solar Jewel') is a cheerful, long-blooming perennial prized for its brilliant golden-yellow daisy-like flowers and compact, tidy growth habit. Blooming continuously from early summer into fall, this sun-loving variety delivers months of vibrant colour while attracting bees, butterflies, and other beneficial pollinators. Its abundant blooms and carefree nature make it an excellent choice for gardeners looking for reliable, low-maintenance colour throughout the season.

The finely textured green foliage forms a neat mound beneath masses of bright blooms that seem to glow in sunny landscapes. Solar Jewel is highly heat tolerant, drought resistant once established, and flowers prolifically with minimal maintenance. Regular deadheading encourages even more blooms, ensuring an extended season of colour that brightens borders, cottage gardens, and pollinator plantings.

Solar Jewel Tickseed performs beautifully in perennial borders, pollinator gardens, prairie plantings, rock gardens, cottage gardens, raised beds, and patio containers. It pairs exceptionally well with echinacea, salvia, gaillardia, rudbeckia, ornamental grasses, nepeta, and lavender, creating colourful, drought-tolerant combinations that provide continuous seasonal interest.

Sun Requirements ▾

Full sun. Plant in a location receiving at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily. Full sun promotes compact growth, sturdy stems, vibrant flower colour, and the heaviest bloom production.

Watering Instructions ▾

Low to moderate. Water regularly during the first growing season to establish a healthy root system. Once established, Solar Jewel Tickseed is drought tolerant and requires supplemental watering only during prolonged dry periods.

Care Tips ▾

Remove spent flowers regularly to encourage continuous blooming throughout the growing season. Divide mature plants every three to four years in spring or fall to maintain vigour and flowering performance. Plant in well-draining soil and avoid excessive fertilization, which can encourage foliage at the expense of flowers. A moisture meter is a great way to gauge your plant's moisture levels.
