SunSparkler® Wildfire Stonecrop (Sedum hybrid ‘Wildfire’)

SunSparkler® Wildfire Stonecrop (Sedum hybrid ‘Wildfire’)

SunSparkler® Wildfire Stonecrop (Sedum hybrid ‘Wildfire’) is a bold compact perennial prized for its fiery red succulent foliage and vibrant rosy-pink flower clusters. This eye-catching stonecrop delivers outstanding colour from spring through fall while providing exceptional drought tolerance and pollinator appeal in sunny landscapes and container gardens.

The thick succulent leaves emerge bright cherry-red with deep burgundy tones that intensify throughout the growing season, creating dramatic contrast in perennial borders, rock gardens, and xeriscapes. In late summer to early fall, clusters of vivid rosy-pink star-shaped flowers bloom above the colourful foliage and attract bees, butterflies, and other beneficial pollinators.

Its compact spreading growth habit remains dense and tidy without flopping, making it ideal for edging, patio containers, small-space gardens, and low-maintenance landscape designs. Like other sedums, Wildfire thrives in hot dry conditions and performs exceptionally well in Prairie gardens once established.

In Alberta, SunSparkler® Wildfire Stonecrop performs best in full sun with sharply drained soil and moderate watering during establishment. Once mature, it develops excellent drought tolerance and reliable winter hardiness while maintaining strong foliage colour throughout the season.

Sun Requirements ▾

Full sun is essential for the richest foliage colour and strongest growth. Plant in a location that receives at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily. Bright sunlight enhances the intense red colouring of the leaves and encourages abundant flowering. Plants grown in too much shade may develop less vibrant foliage and a looser growth habit.

Watering Instructions ▾

Low. Water regularly during establishment, then only during prolonged periods of drought. Overwatering can reduce plant vigour and lead to root issues.

Care Tips ▾

Avoid overly rich soils and ensure excellent drainage. Trim spent flower stems in late fall or early spring to maintain a tidy appearance.
