Tiger Eyes® Cutleaf Staghorn Sumac (Rhus typhina ‘Tiger Eyes®’)
Tiger Eyes® Cutleaf Staghorn Sumac (Rhus typhina ‘Tiger Eyes®’)
Tiger Eyes® Cutleaf Staghorn Sumac (Rhus typhina ‘Tiger Eyes®’) is a striking ornamental shrub known for its finely cut golden foliage and dramatic architectural form. The deeply dissected leaves emerge chartreuse-yellow in spring and intensify to brilliant shades of orange, red, and scarlet in fall, creating exceptional seasonal interest.
Its open, sculptural branching habit gives the plant a tropical appearance despite its excellent cold hardiness. The foliage texture contrasts beautifully with broader-leaved shrubs and perennials, making it a standout focal point in modern and naturalized landscapes.
In Alberta, Tiger Eyes® performs exceptionally well in full sun with well-drained soil. It tolerates drought, poor soils, and harsh Prairie conditions once established. While it may spread slowly through suckers, it is generally less aggressive than standard staghorn sumac varieties.
